Short Story

The Unscramble Africa Artist Fellowship Program aims to create a sustainable, long-term impact on the artistic community in Africa by addressing the financial challenges that many artists face. One of the primary long-term goals of the project is to establish a self-sustaining model where the proceeds from the donated artworks fund future residences. By creating a cycle of support, the program aspires to continuously uplift new artists each year, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder creativity and innovation.

Additionally, the program seeks to build a strong network of alumni artists who can mentor new participants and foster collaboration within the artistic community. Over time, this network is envisioned to become a driving force in the cultural development of the region, promoting African art on both local and global platforms. The Unscramble Africa Foundation hopes that by nurturing this creative ecosystem, the program will contribute significantly to the preservation and evolution of African art, providing artists with the resources and exposure needed to thrive in the global art scene.

The Unscramble Africa Artist Fellowship Program, is a transformative initiative designed to empower artists by providing them with financial stability to focus on their creative pursuits. Each selected artist receives an annual grant of $6,000, distributed as a $500 monthly salary, enabling them to dedicate their time and energy to developing their art without the burden of financial insecurity. This support is aimed at fostering artistic innovation and expression across various disciplines, contributing to a vibrant cultural landscape.

In return for this financial backing, participating artists commit to donating four pieces of their artwork to the foundation each year. These donated pieces are then utilized to generate further support for the program, either through auctions, exhibitions, or direct sales, with proceeds reinvested into the residence program to assist future artists. This reciprocal model not only nurtures individual talent but also builds a sustainable ecosystem that continually supports the artistic community within Africa.
